Christopher Ejugbo. Born in Nigeria. Seasoned in the USSR. Matured in the UK. Catholic upbringing. Embraced it wholeheartedly. Started having doubts. Discovered Humanism. Engineer by training. Currently focused on sustainability and project risk management.

Akua Rugg attended a CMS infants’ school in Lagos, Nigeria,  in the early 1950s. At her secondary school in England, every day started with a bible-reading session. On Sundays she attended both morning and evening services; the sermons at the latter, always given by white missionaries demeaned Africans, turning Akua against religion and the British Empire and into a political activist.

Alexander Williams is a teacher, writer, singer, and poet and author of Secular Verses, a collection of humanist poems. Alex has also penned a number of books, including the LGBT-themed young adult novel Hidden Wings.  He hosts The Dial Up open mic nights, performs as Tiger Jazz and has written and performed his own one man show and multiple festivals. Alex is passionate about the arts, building supportive communities and secular values.

Dionne Simpson is a Black-British author, speaker and abuse survivor. She shares her experiences of abuse within a church context, from being raised in a reclusive Christian sect, facing extreme domestic abuse from her partner for over 18 years, and doing all this while fighting institutional racism and discrimination.

Dionne has overcome significant barriers to become the woman she is today and shares her message with truth and authenticity, sharing hope and encouragement for others facing similar challenges.

Dionne is the author of The Sabotaged Girl, a fictional story of trauma based on real events. She is the Founder of the Dora Milaje Academy, providing  online and in-person safeguarding training for professionals, communities and individuals and hosts Warrior Women Events, free online discussions on topics of abuse, safeguarding and racial justice as key intersections affecting black and brown women.

Jenna-Lee Anderson is a psychologist (BSc, MSc, MBPsS) specialising in nervous system regulation and trauma integration. She's the founder of Neuro Heart Alchemy (NHA), a framework that helps high-performing professional women move beyond chronic survival patterns into regulated, self-led lives, bridging neuroscience, somatic awareness, and lived experience to turn insight into embodied change. Anderson is also the founder of Afro Angel and author of the forthcoming book Neuro Heart Alchemy. Based in London, she works with clients who've already done the therapy and the reading but still feel a gap between what they understand intellectually and what they feel in their bodies.

Laura Iteman is a Freethinker. She is a Pharmacist by profession. She has formed a group for young women, called Non Religious Black London Girlies, (NRBLG).
She created a Tiktok post in mid July 2025 about wanting more agnostic/atheist black friends. It received a lot of traction leading her to form a Discord community which now has over 400 members in the space of a month. She posted on Twitter about creating this space for black agnostic/atheist women. This has led to widespread online backlash and attack from believers. On a positive note, the post also attracted immense support.

Dr. Leo Igwe is a Nigerian human rights activist, humanist leader, and outspoken critic of harmful traditional practices. He founded the Humanist Association of Nigeria in 1990 and later launched Advocacy for Alleged Witches (AfAW), a campaign using compassion, reason, and science to protect people—often children—accused of witchcraft. Over decades of activism, Igwe has endured lawsuits, detention, and violent attacks by opponents of his work, yet continues to champion human rights, freedom of belief, and secular values across Africa. In 2020, he was appointed to the Board of Humanists International, further strengthening his global advocacy. Igwe has received multiple honours for his efforts, including the Distinguished Services to Humanism Award (2014, 2017) and the 2021 Heart of Humanism Award from Foundation Beyond Belief, recognising his tireless defence of vulnerable people and his leadership within the global humanist movement.

S.I. Martin is a British historian, author, and educator specialising in Black British history and literature. He has published both fiction and non-fiction, including the acclaimed Britain’s Slave Trade, written to accompany the Channel 4 documentary of the same name, and the historical novels Incomparable World and Jupiter Williams.

A tireless advocate for inclusive education, Steve works with museums, schools, and libraries across the UK to bring hidden histories to life, and founded the popular "500 Years of Black London" walking tours. He is also a patron of Humanists UK, championing humanist values, critical thinking, and the importance of diverse narratives in understanding Britain’s past.

Tavian Oladapo is a former singer-songwriter and performer whose career in the music industry saw him work alongside acclaimed producers including Steve Mac and Tim Smit. 

He was formerly signed to Polydor Records as the lead singer of the pop band Hysteria, spending several decades immersed in the world of music, songwriting, and performance.

Driven by a lifelong curiosity about the natural world, Tavian eventually transitioned from music into science, and now works in a microbiology laboratory in London. His fascination with science began after learning about impact craters and their role in the extinction of the non-avian dinosaurs — a discovery that sparked a deep passion for geology, evolution, and the history of life on Earth.
